Does Randy have any special needs for his presentations? 1. Certainly Randy would prefer to be on an elevated platform when he presents so he can see everybody and they can see him. As Randy is a wheelchair user, a ramp up to the platform would be easiest for him, but if he is traveling outside of his area, he will have a Physical Care Attendant with him and can be "bumped up" several steps ? 2. A cordless mike would be most accommodating to Randy to ensure people can hear him best. 3. In some cases, Randy brings his Compaq Laptop with him for a PowerPoint accompaniment (pictures). In this case, a projector would need to be provided. 4. As speaking can be very hard on the throat, Randy asks that a bottle of water be available on the platform for him. If there are any other special needs particular to your event, Randy will discuss them with the event planner. Are there any special logistics are involved in bringing Randy to our event? While traveling as a person with a disability is often a complicated process, Randy makes this seamless. In a 400km radius, Randy will charter a wheelchair accessible van, and will travel in his electric wheelchair. Sometimes, depending on the venue, Randy will travel using his manual chair, by car, with a Physical Care Attendant. For trips to other provinces and countries, Randy will always travel with a Physical Care Attendant. It is the responsibility of Randy's Physical Care Attendant to ensure that all of Randy's needs are met, so there should be no concerns for event planners. Is there any extra cost involved as a result of Randy's disabilities? There is always extra cost when people are disabled. Randy offsets this cost whenever possible by reducing his speaking rate. This discount ensures that the expenses of Randy's Physical Care Attendant are not an extra burden for any event. Does Randy need an accessible hotel room? When traveling alone, Randy always requires an accessible hotel room. While it is preferred when Randy is traveling with an Attendant, it is not necessary. When traveling with a physical Care Attendant, Randy will require a room with two beds. Does Randy answer questions after his presentation? If this is the request of the event planner, Randy is more than happy to accommodate. Unless it is requested however, it is not Randy's standard practice to "hang around" after a presentation. This is simply because Randy may have to prepare to travel on to another engagement. Check with him first! Randy is very friendly and enjoys the company of people, so whenever possible he will make time to ensure everyone has had a chance to ask their question. What is Randy's travel policy? As travel expenses are the responsibility of the event planner, Randy usually leaves this to the discretion of the planner. It must always be remembered that Randy travels using a wheelchair, and he will discuss these issues with whoever makes his arrangements. Some airlines are not prepared to carry people with disabilities who use wheelchairs. In the local area, or within 400km, Randy will make his own charter arrangements. Does Randy require any travel assistance? All travel assistance required by Randy is the responsibility of his Physical Care Attendant. When traveling alone, Randy uses an electric wheelchair and is very independent. If anything comes up, Randy is not too shy to ask for help! What kind of audience is best suited for Randy's presentations? Randy communicates well with people of all ages and walks of life, but some keynotes are better suited for some audiences. At end of each Keynote presentation are recommended audiences. Randy does not shy away from speaking with audiences made up of people with disabilities ? in fact, he most particularly enjoys speaking with his peers. At the same time, Randy was a service provider for many years, and communicates well in that environment also. Small or large, audience size makes no difference to Randy. Randy's only request is that he know of any special audience issues (i.e. youth). What is a Physical Care Attendant? A Physical Care Attendant
is a person hired by people with disabilities to assist them with their
Activities of Daily Living, including pushing wheelchairs, grooming, and
any other assistance the individual may require. In Randy's case, Physical
Care Attendants are specially trained to deal with his specific needs. |
