Staff / Corporate Training Workshop

This disability awareness workshop is designed to provide the service industry with a broad base of knowledge in dealing with the client with a disability. Retailers and Restaurateurs are sure to benefit from this fact-filled experience. Content includes an overview of disability both apparent and invisible, etiquette and people with disabilities, and site-specific barriers identification.

As the population of people with disabilities increases (currently 10-15% of society), so does the need for the responsible business owner to ensure access and service. It is also a question of revenue and increasing customer appeal. It is also well documented that becoming "disability-friendly" also attracts seniors who often face the same barriers as people with disabilities.

Why should I be concerned about Disability Awareness?

It only makes good business sense that you ensure the broadest possible customer base, and certainly 10-15% of society is a market that cannot be ignored.

Integrating People with Disabilities into my workforce! (Workshop)

More and more people with disabilities are integrating themselves into the workforce, often in careers heretofore not considered. Along with this new

element in our working environment come new concerns. Preparing an environment to receive people with disabilities as an employer, and from the perspective of co-workers is a wise move to ensure a comfortable environment for all. Accommodating people with disabilities is often a lot simpler and cheaper than people realize. With more and more incentives to hire people with disabilities, employers are taking advantage of these programs, but not considering the human element.

This workshop deals with interaction and approach issues for the co-worker. With a very open approach, Randy delivers a sensitization workshop that really addresses fears and questions that should be asked and answered. Often the fear of integration is lack of information. Many people with disabilities entering the workforce do not want to answer or address those questions as it makes them uncomfortable and separates them from their co-workers. Having an outside force come in can truly ensure that an environment of inclusiveness and teamwork remains and thrives. Sensitizing your workplace before integration makes the addition of new people seamless.

Another component available for this workshop is trouble-shooting. Did you integrate before sensitizing, and are there resentments and miscommunications as a result? This would be the workshop for you!

Integrating People with Disabilities into my Classroom environment! (Workshop)

The same issues often arise in integrating a person with a disability into the classroom, particularly when they are the first one. Using his own life experiences, Randy opens a conversation with students of any age, which answers the questions they may have about differences and focuses thought processes on those things all people have in common!

Surprisingly, it is often not the students who are most concerned about people with disabilities, but the educator who comes with a lifetime of misconceptions, stereotypes, and therefore fears. Randy's refreshing approach helps to dissolve these dated notions and develops a climate of acceptance and understanding.

Randy is particularly adept at tailoring this workshop for the specific disability issues that will arise without the embarrassment of focus on one individual.
